Our Visit at Forth Ports

On Monday 23rd January a group of 8 international students visited Forth Ports, Grangemouth. We were met by three members of their staff who gave us a short introduction to the company, but also a safety briefing. We were lucky enough to also meet the CEO of the company, Charles Hammond, who gave us an insight into how he began in the port business and the history of the business.

From there, we were fitted with safety

equipment - which was necessary due

to all of the heavy lifting on sight - and

were given a guided tour of the port by

vehicle. This was helpful as we were

able to see the port "in action".

After this we were taken to the

Harbourmaster who showed and explained to us how they track their boats and the safety procedures they take when directing the boats. She was very informative and clearly skilled in her field. Our tour guides then took us to the operations manager who gave us a short presentation on the workings and business of the port, thus helping us to understand purpose of the port. HR then greeted us during the lunch period and informed us on the recruitment side of the business, covering; modern apprenticeships, graduate programmes and general recruitment. Finally, we were given the opportunity to ask any last questions before departing from the premises.

Overall, it was very successful day and we were greatly impressed with the company as a whole, but also in the effort and organisation that they put into the day.
