Forth Ports
Services
Forth Ports have 8 ports within the UK with 7 being in Scotland and 1 being in London. They provide Marine surveillance for a certain stretch of water throughout Scotland which is Forth Port’s territory. They have a Harbour Master who is accompanied by a VTS Operator and they are able to track and communicate with the boats out of Fort Port’s water all day, 365 days a year. These two members of staff also ensure that the boats entering this stretch of water oblige by the Forth and Dundee Byelaws but also provide general information for navigation.
This is to make sure that
passing boats are
efficiently and effectively
guided to and from port.
Forth Ports also provide
container terminals for
short sea and deep sea customers. The locations of each port makes them ideal for post-port transportation to the final destination of their cargo. Furthermore, they offer great berthing facilities to cruises, especially during the cruise season. A few ports have the ability to handle grain and dry bulks, because they are equipped with high capacity grabbing cranes. The port of Grangemouth is the only port which can handle liquid bulks in large quantities. Out of all their 8 ports, 55% of their services are executed in the port of Tilbury in London. This is because they have invested in an innovative robotic system in the warehouse, meaning only 90 people are employed in the whole port. This saves time and money for the company which means they can invest it somewhere else within Fort Ports.
